COLLEY: William Arthur-On Monday morning, August 23, 2021, Shirley and Bill had one last conversation; about Las Vegas, one of their favourite places to visit, when Bill fell asleep for the last time. As he had hoped, Bill died at home and with little “fuss” and ceremony. Beloved wife of Shirley Colley (Lauzon). Dear father to Susie (Armando) Heriazon. He will be missed by his grandchildren Emma Lauzon, Abbey and Selwyn Heriazon. Brother to Jackie (Diane) Colley, sister Joanie Mol, sister-in-law Bernice Lauzon, Edie Sharpe(Ed), Pauline (Jimmy) Beale, Janette (Dennis) Rudd, brother in-law Eddie Graydon (Idania), Freddy Lauzon (Mari) and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Predeceased by brother-in-law Joe Mol, Jim Graydon and Donnie (Connie) Smith. Bill will be remembered for his love of family, travel, and almost any and every T.V show; especially nature, history and science programs. He was an avid reader of The Hamilton Spectator and even in the era of on-line news, Bill kept firm in his yearly subscription. He will be greatly missed by his loving and devoted wife, Shirley. Shirley and Bill during their long marriage visited Las Vegas, Alaska, The Yukon, and went on several RV trips throughout the US and Canada. And although Bill and Shirley did not have biological children of their own, they became guardian figures in the lives of Susie and Tammy. Bill attended many dance and piano recitals over the years and could be counted on to proofread essays, speeches, and contributed to a hoard of school assignments. Bill, armed with only a glue gun and cardboard, created a replica of the family home for a French Language assignment. Bill enjoyed many pursuits during his life including hunting, fishing, at spending time at the cottage. However, Bill’s singular passion was photography. It became a near yearly tradition for Bill to trade in his “old” camera for the upcoming newest edition with its “bells and whistles”. Bill took pictures of everything; people, sunsets, nature and animals; never forgetting to include Shirley’s favourite subject matter; wildflowers. Bill was a legend in the family for his innate ability to fix almost everything. Bill was the original “MacGyver”, and everything he touched could be counted on to work better than in its original state. It didn’t seem to matter if it was a car, a small electronic, or a shed; if Bill fixed it, there were always left-over screws, bolts and nails. Bill was smart and intuitive and, in any situation, would determine a creative solution. After the blizzard of 1977, Bill resurrected a “dead” hamster by wrapping it in a wool sock and placing the sock on an aluminum pie plate. After lighting the gas stove,. Bill placed the pie plate, hamster, sock and all, in the oven. After more than a few tense moments, the hamster awoke from his hibernation and continued to live on for several years. Bill often found it difficult to say the words, but in his actions, you knew you were loved. A great well of gratitude for Paula, who was much more than PSW from St. Elizabeth Heath Care. Paula became a precious and dear friend to both Shirley and Bill. Paula genuinely cared for Bill and always “went the extra mile”. The family would also like to recognize, Ray, a paramedic working in the community who with his compassion and support, made this time just a little bit easier. In the last few years, Bill was also kindly cared for by Dr. Bernard and the family has always appreciated her professionalism and thoughtfulness. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you fill out your organ donor card and talk to your family about your wish to donate your organs. Cremation has taken place.
