Obituary for Dieter Oettgen

OETTGEN: DIETER - It is with great sorrow that we announce the death of Dieter Oettgen of Simcoe, Ontario, formerly of Hope Bay Ontario in his 87th year. Dieter is predeceased by his beloved wife Rosemarie (2014), was the loving father to Monica Thompkins and Jean Decaire (Bruce), adored Opa to Jim, Michelle, Mitchell, Jared, Graydon, Andy and Becky and great-Opa to Oliver and Aubrey. Dear friend to Helene Richardson. Dieter was the loved brother of Heidi and Edith (Rudi) and brother-in-law to Hannelore and Erika. He is predeceased by his brothers Helmut and Walter and his brother-in-law John. Born in Germany, Dieter emigrated to Canada in 1959, settling in the Hamilton area. He began working at Stelco, eventually becoming General Foreman of the Coke Ovens at Nanticoke. Dieter was an avid scuba diver and a member of the Barrascuba Underwater Club for many years. At retirement he and his wife Rosemarie moved to Hope Bay on the Bruce Peninsula where they lived for many years. There, Dieter took up sailing and enjoyed hobbies such as wood turning and wine making. Dieter was a special man who will be missed by his family and many friends. Cremation has taken place. Serenity Burial & Cremation Services Inc. 361 Main Street, Port Dover (226) 290-9093 have been entrusted with the arrangements A Celebration of Dieter’s life is planned for Saturday, March 5, 2022, at Branch 79 of The Simcoe Legion, 200 West Street, Simcoe from 11 am to 2 pm.
